Ingredients
- Scottish Rolled Oats- I prefer whole-rolled oats because they are less processed and provide a delicious flavour.
- Water and Whole Milk- I use a combination of water and milk to cook the porridge, this is a good balance and creates a creamy rich texture and flavour.
- Banana- Use ripe bananas because they blend in quickly with the oat and liquid mixture to create a delicious caramelised porridge.
- Medjool Dates- These are sweet, meaty and very indulgent, making them perfect for cooking.
- Pinch of Salt- This is optional however I added a pinch to balance the natural sweetness of the porridge.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Use this section for process shots, alternating between the step and image showing the step. Users don't like seeing process shots cluttering up the recipe card, so include your process shots here.
Begin by adding the oats, water and milk to the pan.
Let it simmer in medium heat for 5 minutes.
Now add the slices of banana, chopped dates and a pinch of salt into the porridge and stir to combined.
Leave it to simmer for 10 minutes, stirring often to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. After ten minutes it is cooked and ready to be serve.
Substitutions
If you are vegan or vegetarian, this recipe can be tailor to your needs by easily substituting some of the ingredients to meet your needs.
- Whole milk- You can substitute it with almond milk, soya milk or any plant-based milk of your choosing.
Storage
Can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. It is Perfect for meal preping for the week! However nothings beats a freshly cook porridge in the morning.
Top tip
While cooking the porridge, continue stirring regularly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom and keep an eye to avoid over flow. Which will cause you extra time for cleaning, we do not want that.
